Deep into Brooklyn by Gravesend, behind a trio of what seem to be nondescript gated doors, is a treasure of a kosher restaurant: Castell's, an Italian eatery that debuted with much fanfare back in September and continues to dazzle months into its operation.

While the restaurant's name translates to "castle" in Catalan and may not have a direct connection to the Italian cuisine offered, it beautifully reflects the ambiance. Eating at Castell’s—a spacious 3,800-square-foot venue adorned with elegant white tablecloths and served by well-dressed personnel—evokes the sensation of dining within a historic fortress.

The menu, undoubtedly extensive, is notably more sophisticated and selective compared to the offerings of other kosher establishments in the vicinity. It's evident that the team spearheading this initiative, including Daniel Matias Britos from Teva (a kosher restaurant located in New Jersey) and chef Tino Olivera, has prioritized careful curation—and the results are impressive.

A selection of pasta dishes, all bursting with flavor and unforgettable, is complemented by a few pizza choices, impressive seafood platters that justify their cost, and an assortment of appetizers.

It would be a mistake not to highlight the carpaccio di tonno: delicate slices of tuna elegantly arranged with crispy sunchokes, onions, Fresno peppers, and a perfect hint of lemon. We highly recommend you consider ordering a couple of those!

Drink-wise, sommelier Ralph Mann's wine list is an impressive one that spans various regions, including France, Israel and Italy. The cocktails developed by Milan Obrenovic also delight, from a Truffle Hog that tastes just like what it sounds like to more traditional drinks like the East Side, made with Tito's vodka, lime juice, cucumber and elder flower.

Mostly, though, it is the physical bar where the various concoctions are poured that will catch your attention: the beautiful banquet functions as a centerpiece of the restaurant that happens to look great on Instagram but also be extremely functional given the eatery's needs.

In a city filled with kosher dining options, each varying in quality, Castell's stands out by ensuring a dining experience that adheres to religious dietary laws while providing a distinctive atmosphere and irresistibly tasty cuisine.
