- Beloved special development teacher dies suddenly
A cherished special education teacher has passed away unexpectedly, leaving a Victorian school community in shock and her grieving students desperate to ensure her return home.
Mercy Linda Kaphamentengo Makuwira unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, following many years of dedicated service at the Dandenong Valley Special Development School.
Gladys, 28, and Patience, 30, her daughters, expressed that the five remaining siblings were 'devastated'.
"They spoke of Mum as an extraordinary woman who confronted life's obstacles with unwavering strength, elegance, and an endless capacity for love."
Despite the challenges mum encountered in the last few years due to a workplace injury, she continued to be the vibrant, humorous, and loving mother who brought us up.
Every Sunday morning, she delighted in dancing to music while tidying up. She had a passion for collecting quirky plants, kitchen gadgets, and cozy cushions to decorate her home.
'She had a remarkable talent for cooking and derived great happiness from preparing meals for others.'
Her compassion for others went well beyond our immediate family. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her role as a special development teacher, making a significant difference in the lives of children and families facing disabilities.
The children are currently making efforts to transport her remains to rest beside her siblings in Ms. Makuwira's hometown of Chimbiya, Malawi.
