Every day, statistics indicate that approximately six thousand women experience menopause.
Dr. Shayla Toombs-Withers from the Essence of Health Wellness Clinic notes, “Many women may begin to experience symptoms in their late 30s or 40s without realizing what is happening.”
That is until they come to the shocking realization that a whole year has passed without a menstrual cycle.
According to Dr. Toombs-Withers, some of the most frequently observed symptoms include:
- Hot flashes
- Difficulty sleeping
- Mood changes
- Brain fog
According to Dr. Shayla Toombs-Withers, "Consuming a high amount of processed and fried foods can exacerbate those symptoms and lead to a woman feeling even more unwell."
Verses eating more plant-based foods. When it comes to treatment, most women turn to hormone therapy, but Dr. Toombs-Withers says patients should consider other options like herbal medicine, nutrition, physical activity, and mental well-being.
Dr. Shayla Toombs-Withers says, “I always tell women to check with your doctor and make sure those things are safe for you. But there are alternatives to hormone therapy.”
Dr. Shayla Toombs-Withers says, “It really depends on the individual. Some are ready for the change, and they will do those things.”
Consistency is key. Dr. Toombs-Withers says whichever option you choose, it usually takes several months to see results.
Dr. Shayla Toombs-Withers says, “The key thing I would like women to know is you don’t have to suffer in silence or feel like you have to deal with it. There are solutions that can help.”
The duration of menopause can range from two to eight years.
