The director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Patrizia Cavazzoni, MD, will step down from the role Jan. 18, according to an Endpoints News report.

Dr. Cavazzoni has been with the FDA for the past seven years, following a successful two-decade career at top pharmaceutical firms like Pfizer, Sanofi, and Eli Lilly. During her time at the FDA, she has taken on multiple leadership roles, notably serving as the deputy center director for operations.

In recent months, other top FDA leaders have also announced their departures, including Jeff Shuren, MD, director of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health, and Namandjé Bumpus, PhD, the agency's principal deputy commissioner.
