One of the more popular New Year's resolutions is to give up alcohol. Not permanently . . . I mean, no one's running for sainthood here. For January. Just for January. We're not talking about people who may have serious issues with drink. I'm just talking about those of us who are doing Dry January.
A recent survey reveals that despite it being early in the month, approximately one-third of individuals who committed to a Dry January have already thrown in the towel.
This encompasses 24% of individuals who committed to abstaining from alcohol this month but have already consumed some drinks, although they maintain that they are making an effort to reduce their intake.
And 5% of people doing a Dry January who already gave up and aren't even TRYING to cut back anymore. So if you're one of those people, and you need a little help, here are some helpful tips:
1. Discover an Alcohol-Free Beverage Alternative
In social settings or when you're looking to unwind with a drink after a tiring day, consider choosing alcohol-free options like sparkling water, soda, or mocktails (which are cocktails without alcohol). You can also try non-alcoholic beer or wine, but keep in mind that certain brands might still have up to 0.5% alcohol by volume, so it's wise to read the label carefully.
2. Steer Clear of Temptations
Avoid having alcohol in your residence. When attending gatherings at others' homes, consider bringing your own non-alcoholic beverages.
3. Establish a Support Network
Share your plans with friends and family, and motivate them to support you in staying on track. Think about finding a partner to take on the challenge alongside you.
4. Utilize the Try Dry Application
This complimentary application from the UK helps users monitor their alcohol consumption, establish personal objectives, and offers encouraging insights, including the calories burned and money saved by reducing or abstaining from drinking. It caters to individuals who aim to decrease or completely remove alcohol from their lifestyle.
5. Keep Pushing Forward
If you make a mistake, don’t dwell on it. Simply start fresh the following day.
You've got this!
Sincerely yours,
Behka
