An alarming depiction illustrates how humans might appear in three decades if a specific alteration doesn't take place.

Now, we all know how important it is to be healthy and lead an active lifestyle, but I'm pretty confident in saying that plenty of us will have thought at some point: "I'm too young to be worrying about my health!"

Sure, you can always start eating healthier and going for weekly runs as part of next year's new year resolution... but it turns out that we need to be prioritising our health at all times, no matter how old we are.

And to prove this, Gousto has commissioned the new Ultra Processed Plates report, which sheds a light on the long-term impacts of ultra processed foods (UPFs) and how it can make us look and feel in the next few decades.

With the guidance of Dr. Hilary Jones MBE, this report seeks to raise awareness about contemporary dietary habits and their lasting effects, ultimately 'contributing to the health of the future'.

Informed by Dr Hilary’s medical expertise and AI technology, Gousto has developed 'Michael' to offer a rather concerning glimpse into humanity’s health 30 years from now.

'Michael' emphasizes the possible consequences of consuming too many ultra-processed foods and the importance of maintaining a balanced diet that includes plenty of fresh, nutrient-dense ingredients.

As you can see below, he's seen with thinning hair, wrinkles and intra-abdominal fat - and that's just on the outside, as on the inside he's battling asthma, anxiety, depression and Type 2 Diabetes.

Gousto collaborated with Dr. Hilary Jones MBE and utilized artificial intelligence to develop 'Michael', a result of a high UPF diet (Gousto).

He further demonstrates that excessive dependence on ultra-processed foods (UPFs) may result in chronic problems such as insomnia and weight increase, leading to discomfort and inflammation in the joints, skin blemishes, and additional health concerns.

Although it might seem that ultra-processed foods (UPFs) can be easily steered clear of, recent research indicates a different reality.

Although over 75% (84%) of people in the UK recognize ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and express concern about their health effects, a significant 65% find it challenging to steer clear of these products. Additionally, half of the population (53%) confess they are uncertain if the foods they purchase or consume while dining out are indeed UPFs.

The research indicates that 75% of participants believe convenience is a significant factor influencing their decision to choose healthier food options. Additionally, more than a third (37%) point to time constraints, while 24% mention a lack of creativity as primary obstacles to preparing meals at home.

"While ultra-processed foods themselves aren't necessarily dangerous, their prevalence in our diets at the expense of fresh, nutrient-dense options can elevate the likelihood of chronic health problems such as heart disease, metabolic issues, and nutrient shortages," Dr. Hilary Jones MBE noted.

"Maintaining a well-rounded diet rich in fresh, whole foods is crucial for warding off chronic illnesses and promoting overall well-being."

"Preparing meals from scratch, which involves using fresh ingredients without any preservatives or additives, is one of the best strategies to reduce our consumption of ultra-processed foods and uphold a healthy diet."

Currently, the UK is facing an obesity epidemic, with ultra-processed foods (UPFs) accounting for almost 60% of the typical diet. This makes it crucial to prioritize fresh and nutritious meals while maintaining an active lifestyle.
