Montanans, when you pick up your favorite snack or beverage from the store next time, make sure to check the ingredient list for this additive that is set to be banned soon.

Nowadays, it’s hard to find products on the shelves that are completely worry-free. It feels like every time you watch the news, there’s a new ingredient linked to cancer that comes to light.

I understand your frustration; it can be disheartening to see how slowly the government responds to harmful substances we encounter in the U.S. However, the FDA has just revealed a new prohibition on Red Dye No. 3.

Red Dye No. 3 is found in thousands of popular products. We regret if any of these are your beloved treats. Regardless of how tasty they are, you might want to think about taking them out of your pantry.

Here Are SOME of the Foods that Carry Red Dye No.3

  • Brach's candy corn
  • Certain jelly beans
  • Betty Crocker Loaded Potato Casserole
  • Ring Pop Berry Blast
  • Betty Crocker Sprinkles
  • Trolli Sour Crunchy Crawlers
  • Yoo-hoo Strawberry Drink
  • Dubble Bubble Original Twist Bubble Gum
  • Mccormick Bac'n Pieces Bacon Flavored Chips
  • Pop Tarts Frosted Confetti Cake Bites

The decision was made after two studies were published that showed cancer in male laboratory rats exposed to the additive. While there have been no reports of Red No. 3 causing cancer in other animals or humans, it seems risky enough to warrant a ban.

You can view the official news release from the FDA HERE.

We advise you to inspect your pantry and supplies, as the ban will not be enforced until January 18, 2028. Businesses that utilize Red No. 3 have a deadline of either January 15, 2027, or January 18, 2028, to reformulate their ingredients.
